Terms & Disclaimer

The terms below govern your use of this website and the interactive tools it contains. They exist to be clear about what these resources are (educational illustrations) and what they are not.

Last updated: May 2026

In short: the calculators, models, glossary, and other tools on this site are provided for general education and illustration only. They use sample or hypothetical figures, they are not actuarial advice, and nothing here creates a client relationship or constitutes a formal actuarial opinion. For a decision that matters, engage a qualified actuary under a written engagement.

01 Educational & illustrative purpose

The interactive tools on the Resources page, including the loss-development (chain-ladder) reserve illustration, the forward profitability exhibit, and the knowledge index, are demonstrations. They are intended to help visitors understand the kinds of analysis property & casualty actuaries perform and the vocabulary that surrounds that work.

Any figures shown are sample, hypothetical, or user-supplied inputs used solely to illustrate a method. They do not represent the actual experience, reserves, rates, or results of any specific company.

02 Not actuarial advice or an actuarial opinion

Nothing on this website constitutes actuarial advice, an actuarial opinion, a Statement of Actuarial Opinion (SAO), an Actuarial Opinion Summary, a certification, or any other form of actuarial work product. The tools apply simplified methods and assumptions and deliberately omit the professional judgment, data validation, peer review, and documentation that genuine actuarial work requires.

  • A real reserve analysis would consider multiple methods, examine data quality, select development and tail factors with judgment, and document assumptions in accordance with applicable Actuarial Standards of Practice.
  • The single-method illustration shown here is not a substitute for any of that and may materially differ from a properly developed estimate.

03 No reliance

You should not rely on any output of these tools for any business, financial, regulatory, accounting, or filing decision. Outputs must not be used to set reserves or rates, support a regulatory filing, value a portfolio, or inform a transaction.

Coastal Carolina Actuarial Consulting, LLC accepts no responsibility or liability for any action taken, or not taken, in reliance on the content or tools provided on this website.

04 No client relationship

Using these tools, browsing this site, or submitting an inquiry does not by itself create a consulting, actuarial, or other professional relationship. A relationship is established only through a written engagement agreement that defines scope, deliverables, and the standards that apply. Information you submit through the inquiry form is used only to respond to you.

05 Professional standards

When engaged, Coastal Carolina Actuarial Consulting performs work in accordance with the Code of Professional Conduct and the applicable Actuarial Standards of Practice of the U.S. actuarial profession, and applies the qualification standards relevant to the work. Those standards govern formal engagements, not the general-information tools on this website.

06 Limitation of liability

This website and its tools are provided “as is,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including as to accuracy, completeness, or fitness for a particular purpose. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Coastal Carolina Actuarial Consulting, LLC disclaims all liability arising from use of this site or its tools.

07 Contact

Questions about these terms, or about engaging the practice for actual actuarial work, are welcome. Please begin a conversation here or write to inquiries@ccactuarialconsulting.com.

Have something real on your desk?

The illustrations end where an engagement begins. The first call is simply a scoping conversation, hourly or fixed-fee, no retainer.
